Online service matches artists with exhibition opportunities; 80 artists from 17 countries are already participating

Boston, MA -- Boston Cyberarts announces the launch of an enhanced and expanded version of APropos, the web-based service that helps digital artists find exhibitors for their work, and vice versa. Originally developed as a resource to identify events for the biennial Boston Cyberarts Festival, the site is now being envisioned as an ongoing service to curators and artists from around the world who are interested in art and technology.

Artists who have projects to propose, and institutions who can provide exhibition opportunities, can post their ideas directly to the site at APropos through a password-protected interface. Then, users can search the listed offerings by art form, keyword, or geographic area to find a suitable match.

Eighty individual projects, involving artists from across the US and 16 other countries, are already listed on APropos. The projects include two-dimensional works, sculpture, web-based art, video, and performing arts such as music and dance. In addition, several organizations have posted requests for proposals or calls for entries on the site, including:

• Cyber-kitchen, a collaborative net art installation that originated in the U.K. and that currently features 62 kitchen objects, each contributed by a different artist.

• Independent Exposure, a 'microcinema' short film and video series with monthly screenings in San Francisco and Houston.

• Manifest 2003, a juried showcase of new artwork including digital photography, printmaking, sculpture and assemblage, organized by Boston's Copley Society.

"APropos is filling a need in the world of digital artists," observed Boston Cyberarts Director George Fifield. "We believe this service will assist in the birth of many creative partnerships ó and not just specifically for the Boston Cyberarts Festival. We are hoping the site will become an ongoing resource for this unique artistic community.

The 2003 Boston Cyberarts Festival is an international biennial festival that brings together artists in all media who are using computers to advance traditional artistic disciplines and to create new interactive worlds.
