1º BRAZIL DIVERSE FESTIVAL

Presented by the Collective Brazil for Art and Culture (COBRAC), in collaboration with the Diáspora Brazil Institute (IDB)
Exhibition Dates: Saturday September 16- Sunday 17, 2023

Brazil, a country of vast dimensions, harbors a myriad of artistic and cultural expressions. This diversity resonates within the Brazilian diaspora residing in Boston, Massachusetts. However, scant room exists for the plethora of cultural manifestations and artistic creations to be appreciated. Hence, the Collective Brazil for Art and Culture (COBRAC), in collaboration with the Diáspora Brazil Institute (IDB), unveils the inaugural DIVERSE BRAZIL EXHIBITION at the Cyberarts Gallery. Through allusions to media, games, and cultural icons, we aim to mirror the digital age and delve into the interplay between technology and artistic-cultural expression.

On September 16th, the Brazilian feature film "I Owe You a Letter About Brazil," directed by filmmaker Carol Benjamin, a representative of the new generation of female cinema, will be screened. After the movie, there will be a “silent listening” of Brazilian music.

“I Owe You a Letter About Brazil”, In search of her father, an ex-political prisoner who refuses to talk about the past, the filmmaker untangles her grandmother's intimate writings in an attempt to understand the story of their family against the brutal backdrop of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964 - 1985).

On September 17th, a selection of children's shorts from the project “The Territory of Play” will be shown, accompanied by a traditional toy workshop and a music circle for kids.

"The Territory of Play” is a project dedicated to listening, exchanging knowledge, documenting, and disseminating the culture of childhood. The documentary filmmakers Renata Meirelles and David Reeks traveled with their children across Brazil from April 2012 through December 2013. They visited rural, indigenous, and maroon communities, traveled through large cities, the remote interior and the coast, showing us the country through the eyes of our children. Renata and David documented the subtle spontaneity of play, through which children present themselves.
