Fresh Media 2020

Exhibition: March 13th 2020 - March 15th 2020

The Boston Cyberarts Gallery is pleased to present Fresh Media 2020, the annual Dynamic Media Institute's student art exhibit. The Dynamic Media Institute (DMI,) at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, is a master's program composed of a diverse group of educators, developers, designers, and artists. The work created by DMI students explores the

role of dynamic media in both art and design. At the core to the program's mission is the engagement with audiences through user testing: our guests' feedback not only provide students with a better understanding of their master projects, but also help expand the field of interaction design as a whole.

Visitors to Fresh Media 2020 can expect a unique art and design gallery experience, where they participate in meaning-making through interaction. Using technologies as diverse as virtual and augmented reality, motion and sound sensors, soundscapes and others, our guests will participate in the expansion of the language of dynamic media. Fresh Media 2020 is an

opportunity to experience, first-hand, what is new in digital art and design. We invite you to explore with us exciting new frontiers of user experience.

About the artists

Mayuri Saxena is an Indian-born artist and designer. She is also a first-year student at the Dynamic Media Institute. She holds an undergraduate degree in Fashion and Lifestyle Accessory Design and work experience of two years in Visual Experience Design. She finds inspiration for her work from her childhood and things around her. She spends a lot of her time in trend study, organizing events, photography, and learning new skills.

Cheng Qiu Is a Chinese graphic designer and book artist, and a first year student at the Dynamic Media Institute. He has worked as a visual designer for shopping website VIP.com. His interests include book arts, video direction and editing, as well as illustrations.

Cori Barnett Mintzer is a Boston based designer and artist, and a second-year student at the Dynamic Media Institute. Her work explores technologies impacts on relationships and society. She works full time as a designer for Harvard University's Credit Union. Her interests include playing squash, photography, cooking, and reclaiming conversation.

Crystal Bi Wegner is an artist and educator, and a 1st year student in the Dynamic Media Institute at MassArt. She is the co-founder of MOON EATERS Collective, a platform for API queer narratives through art, community, and printed media. Crystal is passionate about accessibility in arts education for Boston Public School students and using art as a tool to design a more equitable society.

Kathyleen (Kat) Martin is a first year graduate student of the DMI program. Although she entered the program as a Graphic Design major, Kat hopes to explore many different forms of design from 2D and beyond.

Riley Hunter is a Ohio-born artist and designer, and a second-year student at the Dynamic Media Institute. His art and design is inspired by his fieldwork in ethnography, participatory research, and storytelling in international development-which aimed to investigate and amplify the voices and perspectives of less-heard, vulnerable populations throughout rural Central America and Mexico. Riley hopes that his work might inspire dialogue and encourage interdisciplinary, human-centered work at the edges of these two interrelated fields.

Finnie Mao is an artist and designer who is initially from China, and now lives in Boston. She is currently a student at the Dynamic Media Institute. She also has a B.A. degree in art from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She works most digitally but also paints traditionally as well. Her work deals with the harmonious relationship between human and nature. She has a broad range of interests and often likes to take an interdisciplinary approach when it comes to art projects.

Abraham Evensen Tena is a Mexican-born artist and educator, and a third-year student at the Dynamic Media Institute. He has worked as a game artist and designer for Pearson Education, as well as taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He interests include games, comics, illustration, and art history.
